General Motors, Chrysler and Toyota have all announced safety recalls on some of their vehicles. It is important to keep up with recalls in order to keep yourself and others safe from harm. The recalls are as follows.
General Motors recalls almost a million and a half vehicles for power steering failure
Approximately 1,340,447 vehicles have been recalled by General Motors for a power steering failure issue. With a sudden loss of power steering (EBS) the vehicle can become hard to control, especially at lower speeds, and will increase the risk of an accident. The cars involved in this recall are as follows:
- 2004-2006 and 2008-2009 Chevrolet Malibu
- 2004-2006 Malibu Maxx
- 2009-2010 HHR (non-turbo)
- 2010 Cobalt
- 2008-2009 Saturn Aura
- 2004-2007 Saturn Ion
- 2005-2009 Pontiac G6
The recall is scheduled to begin sometime around April 28th, and dealers will inspect and fix any issue at no cost to you.
Chrysler recalls almost 700 vehicles due to break defect
Chrysler has recalled 644,354 vehicles. This brake defect may cause the brake booster to corrode and then allow water to get inside. Should the water enter and then freeze, it could cause interference with the brake system and will increase the risk of an accident. The vehicles included in this recall are as follows:
- 2011-2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango vehicles (manufactured between the dates of January 5, 2010, and September 8, 2013)
This recall is expected to start sometime in May. Dealers will inspect the vehicles and perform the necessary fixes at no cost.
Toyota recalls more than 100,000 vehicles for airbag defects
Toyota has recently announced a recall for 119,140 of their 2003-2004 Toyota Avalon due to a defect with the airbag. Avalons manufactured from June 5, 2002, through December 20, 2004, may have a defect that will cause the front airbags and/or the seatbelt to inadvertently deploy. This could cause serious injury and harm to yourself and others.
No recall date has been set, but once determined dealers will inspect and perform necessary maintenance-free of charge.
If you have received a safety recall for your vehicle please don’t hesitate to bring it to a dealer and have the issue fixed. Even the smallest issue can have a big effect on safety.
