Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
  • How are my legal fees at LaBovick & LaBovick calculated?
We work on a contingency fee for our cases. This means that our legal fees are calculated based on a percentage of the amount of money that we are able to recover for our clients.
  • What is mediation and how does it affect my case?
Usually, before a case goes to trial, there is mediation or a settlement meeting between both parties.  A mediator, usually a lawyer or retired judge,  allows legal representation for both sides to present their party’s story. If a settlement can’t be reached during the mediation, the case proceeds to trial. It is important to note, that conversations and negotiations during the mediation are not used in a trial, if the case is not settled during the mediation.
  • How long is my case expected to last?
Each case is different. The more intricate the case is, the more time it can take to settle or go to trial. For instance, a medical malpractice case can take between one and two years to settle from when the complaint is first filed. On the other hand, an automobile case, general negligence case or a premises liability case can have a resolution in four months to sometimes two years. Every case is different and timefreame depends upon the facts surrounding the specific case.
